Original Creation

Gorilla's view

Voy Kay 22 Mar 2020

Several paintings from Bob Ross guided me for making this one and they only surved one purpose, to create an immaculate stage for the gorilla (hope Romain likes it!!).
To be short .... I failed on too many challenges. To mention a few: distant trees screwed up, water hardly has reflection, waterfall too amateur, the rocks look like they were painted and the gorilla was too small. What's left? Well, the sky looks nice and so does the little dead tree. Mountain was intended to be 'Mount Kilimanjaro' and after lots of 'Jack Daniels', it might perhaps ressemble it! The idea was excellent, the execution negligent! Second day of total roof renovation (250m²) of our house today, was that playing a part or was it the daredeviling that while in country lockdown modus, I HAD to go shopping early this morning and face Corona in the eye.
Canvas used was a high quality 16"x20", the general idea and execution were by Voy Kay. Please read some articles and be gentle with me in these darkened days! Stay safe!

It takes no whiskey at all to see that you did an excellent job. You achieved a profound amount of distance and depth for a 16x20 canvas. There are a whole lot of moving parts in this painting and it bears repeated viewings.

Still, it has poor finishing. I made this one yesterday and waited 24 hours to photograph it to bring out more colors. I will redo this one but in a far more African scenery, the ones I feel very comfortable with. THANKS for your support, I needed it!

Voy, in this darkened days tell jack daniels to let you add few more shadows to the front view.. this should help to bring the hill closer and add even more depth to the painting.
I like that far away mountain you did great job on it. Trees are not bad at all, the second layer is darker, then the first one. However hill is not darker than the second layer of the trees.
For waterfall if you like you can add stones in front of it to contain it and slightly push it back.
Gorilla looks very lonely in these darkened days, I hope you are ok yourself.
Roof challenge will be over and stress will go away.

Dear Sunnylady, thanks for your cheers and advice, but I like to ask for some help since I would like to make this painting better.
You mentioned some more shadows to the front view, do you mean the giant rocks on the left? They already have some shadow and color twists to it, is it enough?
"hill is not darker than the second layer of the trees", do you mean the grass hill then or the giant rocks on the left?
I will think the idea over for some rocks in front of the fall, although there is very little space left for that I think.
Gorilla is alone in a too big world. I intend to do another gorilla but in a far better suitable scenery, no worries.
And yes, doing okay for the moment but it is hard since we have a good social life in the neighbourhood (new to this neighbourhood since 11/2016 but everybody loves us!) and we miss all of our neighbours. Yesterday I had to put up messages on all our entrance doors that we can't invite anybody inside our home anymore, for a long while. That really hurts but we know it is necessary. Of course everybody can phone us or chat with us from some distance. We are facing another two months of this lockdown, if the situation doesn't get worse of course. My daughter will have her final exams online, my wife works from home and for myself ... I am SO GLAD I have found this new painting hobby to keep busy, next to all the gardening and vegetable nursing.
For now, my roof will be done in some 10-12 days. They cannot work faster since, by government law, only two persons allowed working outdoors because of Corona instead of the four to five that were foreseen.
Hope somehow my written English does make sence to everybody since English is only my fourth language and my typing is just horror!
Please take good care all, and till soon!

Yes MHK, Hakuna matata it is indeed. Until your comment, I never realized that the Lion King also had a monkey on a mountain top (in the begining sequence).
Thank you brightening my day as well!!!

Voy, I have made an article for you to show the areas that caught my attention and explain what I meant about the trees and gorilla island. Of course it is your decision if you find anything at all worth implementing.
Would you let me know when you read the article and I'll un-publish it after.
